Growing Fruit

Sixty Seconds with Judi

Wouldn’t it be lovely to pick that perfect piece of fruit right in your own back yard? It really is not as difficult as you might think.

You can grow a few diverse types a fruit in smaller spaces than most would imagine. Most fruit trees that you can buy for your garden are semi-dwarf varieties that will not grow enormously tall and are very manageable if pruned on a regular basis.  Many fruit trees and shrubs require a pollinator so be sure to check the variety you select to ensure your plant will produce fruit.

Think in layers both low and high, fenced or trellised. For example, Grapes, Raspberries and Blackberries will do well along a fence or a trellis. Blueberries are a shrub so they can stand on their own or used as a hedge. If you are short on space there are varieties that can be planted in pots on your deck or steps. Strawberries do well in raised beds, hanging baskets, or in pots.

We have so many ways for you to grow fruit in your own yard or favorite home space. Here at Linvilla Orchards, we are here to help you plant your fruity favorites!
