Eat Fresh, Buy Local

Sixty Seconds with Judi

I see these signs everywhere- Eat Fresh, Buy Local. I know this is a campaign to encourage folks to buy from their local farm markets. I understand advertising, I guess in a way that is what I am doing here. But, my question is why do we need to encourage folks to eat fresh? Why do they need to be convinced that buying local is better for their communities and overall their well being? To me this is a no brainer. When you see that your produce growing right up the street is ready for the picking, isn’t that enough encouragement to stop in and grab your fixins’ for the week? I mean even if you don’t pick your own, wouldn’t you rather grab a tomato from the farm market that was likely picked fresh just hours ago instead of a shipped grocery store tomato?

Here at Linvilla Orchards we are proud to offer you the freshest produce; literally yours for the picking. August is prime time for the best varieties of fruits and vegetables. This week you can choose from fresh sweet corn, peaches in white and yellow, raspberries, blackberries, peppers, squash, tomatoes and eggplant. This sounds like dinner and dessert to me. So come on down to the farm. Pick your own or pick it up in the Farm Market, either way you can rest easy knowing that you are eating fresh and buying local.

Speaking of eating fresh, join us this weekend at Linvilla Orchards for:
