Happy Valentine’s Day

Sixty Seconds with Judi

Some will call it a greeting card holiday, but I don’t care- I like Valentine’s Day. I was trying to research the origin and found that few can agree on just who St. Valentine was.

My favorite story would be the story of a priest who served during the third century in Rome. Claudius II, the Emperor of Rome, decided that single men made better soldiers than those who were married with families, so he outlawed marriage for young men. Valentine, who must have had a heart of gold, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. Of course, this did not end well for Valentine but we won’t talk about that!

There is also talk that Valentine fell in love with his captor’s daughter who would visit him in prison. He would then write her letters and sign them “From your Valentine”.  I bet this is how the greeting card industry began!

So, in honor of your Valentines everywhere we wish you a heart filled with joy and chocolate! Yes, chocolate and flowers and love!

Come visit us here at Linvilla and we will help you find your Valentine the perfect gift, card or hand- made candies.
