A Corny Tale

Sixty Seconds with Judi

Why can’t you tell secrets in a field of corn? There are too many ears! Okay, I know this is a pretty corny way to start my blog. Haha, I am crackin’ me up but I can’t help it- I love corn season!

Botanically known as Maize, corn has been around for thousands of years. Well known as one of the Three Sisters to the Native American People (Corn, Squash and Beans), Maize has been a big staple in our diets for a very long time.

Just like the people who grow it, corn has evolved through the years. Corn has been used as a vegetable, cereal, ground into flour, used as animal feed or as a source for sugar and starch, and now as a bio fuel.  It can be eaten raw or cooked, plain or seasoned, and corn seems to complement anything you serve with it. Its diversity seems to be endless.

Linvilla’s very own sweet corn is up and ready for eating. Whether you cook it up or not (right off the cob is super yummy), you will be immersed in the feeling of summer from your first bite.

Come on out to Linvilla Orchards and pick your own corn as well as other fruits and vegetables. Pick Your Own opens everyday at 8:00 am and is open till 6:30. Nothing beats “Fresh from the Farm”!
